DURBAN, South Africa The EThekwini Community Churches International, under the visionary leadership of Bishop Vusi Dube and Mother Bishop Dr. Takalani Dube , hosted the annual Siyabakhulisa Umemulo celebration on 25-26 September at the church premises, 163 Anton Lembede Streer and Esigcawini Amphitheatre.
The two-day cultural and spiritual event brought together more than 100 young people who turned 21 between September last year and this year, marking an important milestone in their journey to adulthood. Open to the community at large, the celebration was a blend of culture, spirituality, and mentorship.
The programme began with the arrival of participants and lively rehearsals of traditional Zulu dance. The highlight was the “Umemulo” ceremony, where the youth wore their vibrant traditional regalia and proudly showcased their heritage before families, church members, and the wider community.
The celebrations concluded with a Gala Dinner. Mother Bishop Dr. Taki Dube gave heartfelt guidance to the young adults, emphasizing the importance of God, making wise life choices, and taking care of themselves as they step into maturity. Mentors Mrs. Zulu and Mrs. Dlala played vital roles in preparing and supporting the youth throughout the event.
Bishop Vusi Dube expressed his gratitude to the community for its support, noting that Siyabakhulisa is not only about celebrating culture but also about “raising a generation anchored in faith, responsibility, and hope for the future.”
The siyabakhulisa2025 Umemulo, celebration once again highlighted the commitment of EThekwini Community Churches International to empower young people and ensure that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to celebrate this significant moment.
